Jessie Branch of The Blue recently recorded three excellent singer songwriter tracks here in the studio. She wrote and arranged everything, played all the instruments, and sang all the lead and backup vocals.
All songs are hosted through SoundCloud.
To celebrate the one year anniversary of Big Name Recording Studio, we’re having a show/party featuring some of the bands that have worked in the studio in the past year.

Two tracks from a superbly talented Cascadian post-punk/indie group, recorded, mixed, and mastered at Big Name.
Us – Songs For Us
uswa.bandcamp.com
I wrote these songs in 2010 for a performance piece that I was a part of in my first class at The Evergreen State College. For an entire school year our group of 70 something students examined consciousness, myth, neuroscience, quantum mechanics, dream science and psychology, Asian wisdom traditions, and much more.
Now I have revived those compositions, originally performed live with a loop station, in properly recorded form with new spoken word provided by a good friend of mine who I originally met in that class, Noble Russell. His poetry throughout the EP is a singular narrative. His words are an artistic rendering of our studies at that time.
Instrumental version also available: uswa.bandcamp.com/album/songs-for-us-instrumental
MGK/Ultra – ARC OV LIGHT EP
mgkultra.bandcamp.com
4 tracks from Olympia’s newest goth/dance/punk band, recorded by the band on a 4 track and mastered at Big Name.
Thompson – Yeah! That Would Be Cool!

After 6 months of production, Mike Thompson’s Yeah! That Would Be Cool! is available to the public. 41 minutes of acoustic driven alternative/indie rock, featuring many Olympia guest musicians.
The Blue – Flaming Go’s
thebluelovesyou.bandcamp.com
37 minutes of pop/funk/soul/rock goodness, recorded at Big Name.
The Lunch – HCNUL EHT

A single industrial track from the strange and unique mind of William Bills. Recorded to tape, mixed, and mastered at Big Name.
A God or an Other – Towers of Silence

73 minutes of black metal/post rock awesomeness. I’m really happy with how this came out and can’t wait to hold the double vinyl version in my hands.

In other news, the studio has been seeing a lot of action since the release of SF2:TWW:ATA. The Blue is working at Big Name again, this time doing a 9 song album. We are currently finishing up tracking.
Mythologies is due in for two more songs at the beginning of June destined for a 7″ record.
Drum tracking for With the End in Mind comes shortly after that.
The final recording stage of Mike Thompson’s Yeah! That Would Be Cool! is taking place right now. We are now on to editing and mixing.
And I’ve got a project in the works with Noble Russell. It is loop based instrumentals I wrote for an Evergreen course a few years back. The tracks feature his spoken word.
